Community and Personal Activities

Alan is well known among the community of non-profit organizations. He is a frequent and popular lecturer for the Southern California Independent School Business Officers chapters. For close to 30 years, Alan was involved with the YMCA in various leadership roles. Alan is also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying snow skiing, hiking and fishing.

Alan Harrison, the Director in Charge of Stanislawski and Harrison’s Audit Department, developed his code of client service early in his career. “As a Senior Accountant, I worked all weekend to finish a report that a Partner wanted on Monday. The Partner then went on vacation for two weeks, during which time the client repeatedly called in vain for the report. I resolved that my staff and I would never be a bottleneck. I make sure the clients get their deliverables when they need them.”

Alan’s professional focus is on non-profit organizations and middle market businesses. He embraces a consultative approach in which the partners are always involved in an audit, bringing their knowledge and experience into the clients’ office. Alan and his team give clients valuable recommendations on streamlining their accounting and information systems, reducing the risk of fraud and embezzlement by improving controls and improving the clarity and transparency of financial reporting.

Alan earned his degree in accounting after three years of military service, where “the Army taught me to rise early.” He began his career with Deloitte in Los Angeles, planning and supervising financial audits of public corporations, government agencies, and non-profit entities. Alan’s resume reads like a history of business in Los Angeles, with experience in key sectors such as manufacturing, defense, construction, and aerospace. As a result he has a vast knowledge of accounting information and control systems. Alan’s current projects include business and systems consulting, tax planning and compliance as well as audit and review engagements. Whatever he is working on, however, his vision of client service never wavers: “My approach is to provide what I would want if I was a member of the client’s Finance Committee or Board of Directors.”
