Melissa Wood is a Director in Stanislawski & Harrison’s Auditing department. A veteran of many business mergers and acquisitions, Melissa loves it when clients ask “What do you think of our plan?” “We can help them avoid unwanted accounting results” she says, “because we understand accounting and business.”
The daughter of a CPA father, Melissa has always been interested in business. After obtaining her degree in accounting, she went to work for Deloitte, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms. During ten years with Deloitte, she gained extensive experience with middle-market and large domestic and international companies, particularly in distribution and manufacturing. She has special expertise in complex inventory issues, acquisitions and stock-based compensation.
Melissa’s clients rely on her advice to make sound, well-informed business decisions. In one case, she reviewed a proposed transaction for a client which included a partial acquisition of another business. Melissa realized that recent changes in accounting rules would have resulted in consolidation, which would have been an unfavorable outcome for the client. Thanks to Melissa’s advice, the client was able to restructure the deal so that it yielded a financial outcome consistent with the company’s intentions.
Melissa’s experience with large for-profit corporations will also be helpful to Stanislawski & Harrison’s many non-profit clients. “My “big business” skills enable me to show any organization how to run more efficiently and productively,” she says.
