Greg Stanislawski, MBT, CPA (Director)

greg@snh-cpa.com 626-844-2025

Greg Stanislawski, Managing Director at Stanislawski & Harrison, has achieved great success for the firm’s clients by drawing on inventive, right-brain thinking. His ability to ask the right questions and see the client’s whole picture enables him to offer imaginative options to achieve the clients’ goals. This creative approach, which he calls “frequent bright ideas,” or “FBIs,” has enabled his clients to work smarter, not harder, with long-term monetary and operational benefits for the firm’s clients.

The process requires Greg to go beyond the role of trusted advisor; he often serves as coach, cheerleader, detective and therapist. “I ask a lot of questions before I come up with the FBIs,” he says. “It’s challenging work, but it’s the only way I know to get the information and inspiration I need to help my clients accomplish their goals with the most economical and tax-efficient methods.”

Greg acquired his early experience at the Los Angeles office of Deloitte, a leading international CPA firm, where he obtained his Masters of Business Taxation (MBT) from the University of Southern California. He has been providing business management, tax, insourced accounting, and consulting services to high net-worth individuals and their closely held financial groups for more than 30 years. With an emphasis on transaction consulting and business management for corporate and entertainment executives, he manages the financial affairs of individuals as well as large closely held corporations, trusts and foundations. He also does consulting for start-ups, family business groups and partnerships.

Greg “can handle anything my clients throw at us” and especially welcomes the challenge provided by “exotic ” investments and ventures. Over the years he has managed a variety of high level transactions for clients including corporate jets, golf courses, radio stations, and baseball teams.

As Managing Director, Greg sets the vision for Stanislawski & Harrison. He has been instrumental in bringing the latest information technology to the firm, which is currently making the transition to a paperless workplace. Under his leadership, Stanislawski & Harrison has developed a culture of “extraordinary service” to its clients, fueled by innovative “FBIs.”

Alan C. Harrison, CPA (Director)

alan@snh-cpa.com 626-844-2030

Alan Harrison, the Director in Charge of Stanislawski and Harrison’s Audit Department, developed his code of client service early in his career. “As a Senior Accountant, I worked all weekend to finish a report that a Partner wanted on Monday. The Partner then went on vacation for two weeks, during which time the client repeatedly called in vain for the report. I resolved that my staff and I would never be a bottleneck. I make sure the clients get their deliverables when they need them.”

Alan’s professional focus is on nonprofit organizations and middle market businesses. He embraces a consultative approach in which the partners are always involved in an audit, bringing their knowledge and experience into the clients’ office. Alan and his team give clients valuable recommendations on streamlining their accounting and information systems, reducing the risk of fraud and embezzlement by improving controls and improving the clarity and transparency of financial reporting.

Alan earned his degree in accounting after three years of military service, where “the Army taught me to rise early.” He began his career with Deloitte in Los Angeles, planning and supervising financial audits of public corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit entities. Alan’s resume reads like a history of business in Los Angeles, with experience in key sectors such as manufacturing, defense, construction, and aerospace. As a result he has a vast knowledge of accounting information and control systems. Alan’s current projects include business and systems consulting, tax planning and compliance as well as audit and review engagements. Whatever he is working on, however, his vision of client service never wavers: “My approach is to provide what I would want if I was a member of the client’s Finance Committee or Board of Directors.”

Wendy Kwong, MBT, CPA (Director)

wendy@snh-cpa.com 626-844-2028

Wendy Kwong, a Director, thrives on challenges. She especially enjoys handling her clients’ complicated and innovative agreements and transactions, for which there may be little established accounting protocol. “Bring them on ” says Wendy, who provides business management, tax, and accounting services for high level nonprofit organizations, private equity funds, and multi-tiered business groups with total assets of more than $800 million. She also has years of experience with real estate partnerships, limited liability companies, estates, and trusts.

Wendy directs the Business Management Group at Stanislawski & Harrison, which handles the insourced accounting for many of their largest clients. She has extensive experience as a client liaison with the international CPA firms that perform outside audits for Stanislawski & Harrison’s insourced accounting clients and “can speak the auditor’s language.” This means that their financial audits are more efficient and require very little participation from Wendy’s busy clients.

Wendy is meticulous about her work. “I have to be a detective, doing my homework and paying attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture, ” she says. This approach yields substantial benefits for her clients, such as the time when she noted a bank mistake that was costing the client tens of thousands of dollars a month in interest, which was rectified.

Clients don’t like surprises, so Wendy and her team keep them informed throughout the process, making sure they understand the work and the approach being used. “We work closely and proactively with our clients,” she says. “With their accounting insourced to us, they can focus on managing and developing their business.”

sarah@snh-cpa.com 626-844-2027

Sarah Cullen, a Director, exemplifies Stanislawski & Harrison’s successful hands-on operating style. “At Stanislawski & Harrison, the Directors do more than just sign the tax returns,” she says. “When a client has a problem, I answer the phone, and I solve the problem.”

Unlike partners at many larger firms, Sarah regularly works one-on-one with her clients, including large family offices assisting them with both entity and individual matters. This approach creates closer, more creative relationships and provides an environment where innovative ideas that benefit clients can thrive.

Sarah has been providing tax and consulting services to high net worth individuals, their closely held entities, and nonprofit organizations for more than eighteen years. She spent the first part of her career at the international accounting firm Arthur Andersen as a Manager and Director in their Private Client Services Group. Sarah gained substantial expertise there while providing high-level income, charitable giving and estate planning services to her clients. Among her achievements, she restructured- a large nonprofit organization in order to save it from paying substantial annual tax on unrelated business income. She also edited several chapters on charitable foundations for Arthur Andersen’s popular and influential book “Tax Economics of Charitable Giving.”

Sarah’s comprehensive approach coordinates income tax planning and compliance with all aspects of her clients’ financial situations. She is therefore able to offer creative, practical solutions that are customized for each client’s circumstances. “I am much more than a tax advisor,” she says. “I keep the whole picture in mind, which frees my clients to focus on their goals for their businesses and families.”

Alyson Kroischke, MBT, CPA (Director)

Alyson@snh-cpa.com 626-396-4899

Alyson Kroischke has been a consultant to more than twenty “family offices,” some large enough to require their own in-house tax departments. As an advisor to high net-worth families, Alyson has learned a great deal about family dynamics and how to run an effective family office. She is particularly skilled at helping multiple generations work together toward common goals. Her philosophy is “to maintain a healthy family environment by making sure all the generations are involved in making decisions.”

As a Director in Stanislawski & Harrison’s Tax Department, Alyson helps her clients look beyond tax considerations to define their personal long-term goals. “I help my clients focus on what’s most meaningful to them and give them the information they need to make an informed decision. Then I encourage them to make decisions that are in sync with their values, rather than making a decision based solely on achieving the best tax result.”

Alyson’s tax advice consistently helps clients meet their tax and estate planning objectives. She takes a creative approach to tax planning, as seen in her success with the transfer of low-basis securities into charitable remainder trusts, resulting in substantial income and estate tax savings. This strategy gave her clients the potential to eliminate the capital gains tax while meeting their philanthropic goals and receiving a significant tax benefit.

Alyson also advises trusts, businesses and charitable organizations in many specialty areas including estate planning and financial services. Prior to joining Stanislawski & Harrison, Alyson worked at Arthur Andersen as a Manager in their Private Client Services group.

Melissa Wood, CPA (Director)

melissa@snh-cpa.com 626-844-2039

Melissa Wood is a Director at Stanislawski & Harrison in the Auditing department. A veteran of many business mergers and acquisitions, Melissa loves it when clients ask “What do you think of our plan?” “We can help them avoid unwanted accounting results” she says, “because we understand accounting and business.”

The daughter of a CPA father, Melissa has always been interested in business. After obtaining her degree in accounting, she went to work for Deloitte, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms. During ten years with Deloitte, she gained extensive experience with middle-market and large domestic and international companies, particularly in distribution and manufacturing. She has special expertise in complex inventory issues, acquisitions and stock-based compensation.

Melissa’s clients rely on her advice to make sound, well-informed business decisions. In one case, she reviewed a proposed transaction for a client which included a partial acquisition of another business. Melissa realized that recent changes in accounting rules would have resulted in consolidation, which would have been an unfavorable outcome for the client. Thanks to Melissa’s advice, the client was able to restructure the deal so that it yielded a financial outcome consistent with the company’s intentions.

Melissa’s experience with large for-profit corporations will also be helpful to Stanislawski & Harrison’s many nonprofit clients. “My “big business” skills enable me to show any organization how to run more efficiently and productively,” she says.

His areas of expertise include investment advice as well as retirement and estate planning for high net-worth individuals and their closely-held entities. “My clients have built their reputations and net worth in large part on their integrity and trustworthiness. They want the same characteristics in their advisors.” Tom says.

He was a member of that firm’s National Tax Management Group, and served as Partner in Charge of the Los Angeles tax practice. His familiarity in these areas has made him an indispensable resource to the clients at Stanislawski & Harrison.

Some of Tom’s clients have been with him for decades, and he often finds himself advising the third generation of families. He recommends strategies to the younger generation for growing and preserving their wealth, while counseling the second generation on plans for succession.
